Delaware Valley RSCDS: Exec Committee
Serving on the Executive Committee
For those of you considering volunteering yourselves or someone else to Exec Committee, Alfred Hurd writes:
The Executive Committee manages the operations of the Delaware Valley
Branch. Being a member involves taking real, but not heavy, responsibility.
We decide how our assets (money, equipment, and people) will be employed,
year by year, and work to make our various initiatives successful. Many who
have participated assert that membership in the committee teaches career
skills.
Although the cycle of events is reasonably stable throughout the course of a
year, there are variations, problems, and suggestions that need thought and
decision.
Basic to successful membership are a willingness to take responsibility for
Branch activities, availability for meetings, and clear thinking.
Position responsibilities as stated in our Branch bylaws:
The Executive Committee shall have all the powers of the Directors. It
shall conduct and direct the business of the Branch, and shall have complete
control over all the activities in which the Branch shall from time to time
engage. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Executive
Committee shall have the power to...
1. Fix the classes of membership, with the dues and privileges of each class
and approve or reject application for membership.
2. Authorize the expenditure of the money of the Branch.
3. Fix the time and place of their own meetings and of the Annual General
Meeting of the Branch.
4. Employ necessary office assistance.
5. Make arrangements for Branch activities through special committees or
otherwise.
6. Appoint persons to all unexpired terms of any Officer or Member of the
Committee whose office shall become vacant through resignation, failure to
elect, or otherwise, or to fill any newly created office.
